Hibernian 4-1 Kilmarnock

Hibs swept aside injury-hit Kilmarnock, with striker Clayton Donaldson hitting a hat-trick, despite missing a penalty.

Donaldson smashed an acrobatic shot home early on and followed it with a conversion from the penalty spot.

Alan Combe saved a second spot-kick and made a number of great stops before Mickael Antoine-Curier tapped in.

Colin Nish replied for Killie but Donaldson made no mistake from yet another penalty, given away by Ryan O'Leary who was sent off.

Easter Road manager John Collins handed defender Darren McCormack a start on his birthday and the 19-year-old enjoyed a comfortable SPL debut.

Hibs have made a habit of scoring early this season and the home side again started brightly and went in front after 12 minutes.

The visitors failed to clear a Filipe Morais corner and when Brian Kerr headed the ball back into the danger zone Donaldson spun quickly and blazed a shot high into the net.

Kilmarnock replied with a swift break and Aime Koudou's shot was blocked by the long legs of goalkeeper Yves Ma-Kalambay.

Hibs striker Steven Fletcher picked up a perfect long delivery from David Murphy and cleverly juggled the ball on his head to get past Frazer Wright but Combe blocked his shot from a tight angle.

Fletcher failed to direct another wonderful cross from Murphy on target and Combe made an incredible full-length diving save to claw away a net-bound header from Rob Jones.

Hibs were full of verve and invention as they pressed forward but their second goal was harsh on Killie.

Wright appeared to time his tackle on Donaldson perfectly but referee Stuart Dougal enraged the supporters from Ayrshire when he pointed to the spot.

Donaldson picked himself up and tucked the penalty kick away for his fourth goal in his last three starts.

Three minutes before the interval, Combe failed to gather a cross and had defender Simon Ford to thank for clearing away a shot from Morais.

The lively Portuguese winger then warmed the hands of Combe with a strike after a lightening counter-attack from the home team.

Hibs were awarded a second penalty inside the first minute of the second half when David Lilley climbed all over Donaldson.

However, the former York City striker saw his casual effort comfortably saved by Combe.

The visiting keeper followed that with another very impressive stop to keep out a Fletcher effort as the Hibs striker slid in to meet Murphy's low cross.

Kilmarnock made a triple substitution on 54 minutes, with Colin Nish, Willie Gibson and Craig Bryson thrown on by manager Jim Jefferies.

But the visitors could not halt the Hibs attacks and the busy Combe once again denied Fletcher, with the Scotland under-21 international firing in a powerful swerving shot.

Fletcher was replaced by Antoine-Curier and the big Frenchman tapped in Hibs' third goal when he diverted Donaldson's shot from close range.

Killie subs Gibson and Nish combined to reduce the deficit, with the latter drilling in a shot from six yards.

But a third penalty was given to the home team when O'Leary hacked down the speedy Donaldson and the striker made it count this time.

O'Leary was sent packing for the ugly challenge and Ford and Gary Locke could have followed for bad fouls as Killie lost all discipline.

Antoine-Curier flashed a free-kick narrowly wide and mis-kicked horribly in front of goal as Hibs pressed for more goals on a good afternoon for their fans.

Hibernian 2-4 Motherwell (Jobbies)

Motherwell knocked holders Hibernian out of the CIS Insurance Cup thanks to three goals in eight minutes.

Clayton Donaldson fired Hibs ahead with a solo run and shot after 11 minutes, but David Clarkson headed an equaliser.

Keith Lasley slotted Well's second from a Steven McGarry cross and Ross McCormack did make it three with a superb chip over Yves Ma-Kalambay.

Chris Porter fired in a fourth late after the break before Mickael Antoine-Curier headed in for Hibs.

Yet they had started brightly, with French striker Mickael Antoine-Curier blasting a long-range shot over after just 35 seconds.

Sunday's match-winner, Dean Shiels, looked especially lively after being handed a rare start.

The Steelmen soon found their stride and Clarkson dragged a shot wide and the restored McCormack had a drive palmed away by home goalkeeper Yves Ma-Kalambay.

But Hibs swept up the park to break the deadlock after 11 minutes through summer signing Donaldson, marking his home debut with a fine goal after starting in place of the injured Steven Fletcher.

Brian Kerr played the ball down the left touch-line and Donaldson brilliantly dummied Stephen Craigan before racing in on goal, cutting across Mark Reynolds and netting under Graeme Smith.

The opener only galvanised Motherwell, who responded in incredible style.

They were level after 17 minutes, when McCormack's in-swinging corner caught Ma-Kalambay flat-footed and Clarkson glanced home a header.

Well went ahead three minutes later, when Steven McGarry's cross picked out the unmarked Keith Lasley at the back post to slot home.

Hibs were all at sea defensively and Clarkson found the net only to be ruled offside from another McGarry centre.

But a third goal for Mark McGhee's attack-minded men was only delayed thanks to the brilliance of McCormack.

The former Rangers striker collected 25 yards from goal and remarkably angled a lob over the giant frame of Ma-Kalambay into the top left-hand corner.

Ma-Kalambay was again forced to deny Clarkson as Hibs' fans vented their frustration.

Motherwell created the first chance of the second half and a McGarry effort from 20 yards was fumbled by the Hibs goalkeeper.

But Hibs started to press and goalkeeper Graeme Smith tipped over a Rob Jones header.

Filipe Morais fired over from 25 yards then fired wide from closer range.

Mickael Antoine-Curier and Merouane Zemmama were also off target with efforts from 12 yards.

Motherwell remained dangerous on the break and Ma-Kalambay had to parry clear a Chris Porter effort from 12 yards.

Porter made no mistake from a similar distance after 82 minutes.

Antoine-Curier headed a reply from six yards following a Morais cross, but it was too late for Hibs to keep their hands on the trophy.

Hibernian 3-2 Celtic

Two howlers from goalkeeper Artur Boruc handed Hibernian victory over SPL leaders Celtic after a five-goal thriller at Easter Road.

Boruc allowed a Steven Fletcher drive to squirm over his body after five minutes, but Aiden McGeady drove home the equaliser 21 minutes later.

Thierry Gathuessi fired Hibs back into the lead, only for Gary Caldwell to head an equaliser after the break.

But Jay Shiels pounced after Boruc dropped a Merouane Zemmama drive.

It leaves Hibs as the only unbeaten side in the Scottish Premier League.

Celtic manager Gordon Strachan had been forced to make two changes following the midweek Champion League defeat by Shakhtar Donetsk.

Mark Wilson and Shunsuke Nakamura were ruled out through injury and replaced with Jean-Joel Perrier-Doumbe and McGeady.

Hibs were without the suspended Clayton Donaldson, while Filipe Morais dropped to the bench, with Fletcher and Kevin McCann being granted starting berths.

Manager John Collins sprung a surprise by adopting a 3-5-2 formation that had backfired on a couple of previous occasions.

And goalkeeper Yves Ma-Kalambay was forced to make a couple of blocks from Scott McDonald efforts after the Australian exploited the extra space just outside the six-yard box.

But Hibs stunned the visitors when Fletcher's slightly deflected drive from 25 yards somehow managed to deceive Boruc.

That settled the home side, but they suffered a blow after 19 minutes, when Fletcher was stretchered off in some distress after picking up a leg knock following a 50-50 challenge with Stephen McManus.

And the Edinburgh side were pegged back seven minutes later after a swift interchange of passes between McDonald and Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink inside the Hibs box set up McGeady to drive the ball into the corner of the net from 16 yards.

Collins had seen enough and pulled off young Lewis Stevenson after 29 minutes and his replacement, Morais, made an immediate impression with some clever jinking runs from central midfield.

The former St Johnstone and Millwall player was involved in Hibs' second goal four minutes before the break.

Gathuessi pounced on a poor headed clearance by Caldwell to blast the ball into the far corner from 15 yards.

Hibs were first to threaten after the break and Caldwell cleared from in front of his own goal after Morais had beaten Boruc to a through ball and lobbed the goalkeeper from an acute angle.

Antoine-Curier and substitute Shiels both fired efforts wide, but Celtic started to take control.

Only desperate late lunges from Rob Jones denied Paul Hartley and Scott Brown being put clear close to goal.

And Ma-Kalambay did well to turn a powerful McGeady effort over the crossbar.

But, from the resulting corner, Caldwell headed powerfully home from eight yards.

Just when it looked like Celtic would save their unbeaten league record, Boruc dropped Zemmama's drive and Shiels forced the ball home.
